Breathe Deeply
Sit for a moment and be present. When we feel pressure with the to do list, the overwhelming sensation takes over. But stopping in the moment and breathing in and out will help you feel more balanced. You can add calming fragrances like vanilla or lavender to your workspace to help you feel more at ease. Drinking vanilla or lavender flavored water can also stimulate the senses and help you feel calmer.
Get Fresh Air
Many times we feel overwhelmed with the stress of life and stepping outside can provide us an instant fix. The fresh air on our skin, the wind blowing in our face. Nature and being outdoors can provide us with a good perspective. Nature has the ability to help calm people. And when we feel overwhelmed seeing the sun shine on our face can help us feel more relaxed.
Focus on What You Want
Many times we become overwhelmed because we feel as if we have to do something. The to do list pile get’s larger as we feel compelled to do chores and activities that we do not really want to do. If it is a work assignment that has you’re stressed out then take mini steps to achieve your inner peace. Focus on the task at hand. And talk yourself into why you want to do it. Will the project bring you more recognition, more money or more time to spend with people you enjoy working with?
Ask yourself a list of compelling questions in order to narrow down the reason you resist the activity. The stress we feel is usually because of the fact that we feel like we have to do something rather than want to do it. When you switch your brain to focus on the task at hand and think about the want, then you will be more excited to do it.
